Default Looking for Arena

I know it's a bit "out of date", but does anybody know where I could find a
copy of Arena? My old copy finally died, and I'm looking to replace it.

Did you have the floppy diskette version or the CD-ROM version? The
reason I ask is that I still have my CD copy of the game.

Bethesda themselves still sell it, so I hear. Try www.bethsoft.com/store/

I had the CD copy (if it was floppy, I'd have made an archive copy). As for
ordering from Bethesda, Unfortunately I've made it a point not to have a
credit card.

Thanx,
Dave

That website isn't online anymore.

http://orders.bethsoft.com/store/

is, but doesn't show Arena, nor any other ancient DOS-Games ...

Odd...An abandonware site I went to listed its top ten old games, and
included arena, but said they didn't offer it for download as bethesda were
still selling it at there online store.

I just checked the Bethsoft Tech Support for arena, and under "Sales" the

Q: Where can I purchase this title or get replacement CDs, manuals, etc.?
A: That title is discontinued and is no longer in print, and copies or
replacement media or materials (manual, technical supplements, keyboard
overlays, player aid cards), are no longer available. Your best bet is to
check in the bargain bins of local software stores for copies of the older
titles, or check on the Internet for online stores that may still have
copies of the game in inventory. You might also try posting a "wanted to
buy" message in one of the many games newsgroups on the internet, to see if
someone has a copy of the game they would be willing to part with.

How did you fix the mouse problem? In some of the screens it works
fine, but others such as the Load, Save, Exit and Stats distribution it
just sits there. I can move it in the stats screen by hitting the
Escape key and going back to the screen. It moves sometime during those
dialog boxes, but I can not control it. I could find no way to
distribute the points just using the keyboard.

Using mousectl.com (get it e.g. from http://ufo-x.com/file/mousectl.zip)

Modify your arena.bat like this:

loadhigh mousectl 5,6,10,15,15,15,15,15
@A -delay:1 -sa:220 -si:7 -sd:1 -ma:220 -mq:7 -md:1 -ssbdig.adv -msbfm.a
dv

For the sound problems use the vdms sound system

hth,

Gideon

If Bethesda was researching ideas for christmas, it could be an archive

I think that is one thing they will want to avoid at all costs. I still
can not get Arena to work under XP and Daggerfall has problems with
today's faster computers. The tech support costs for such a CD would be
far more than any profit they might realize on the sales. Like many
other titles of yore there is not sufficient market interest for them to
rewrite them to work in today's computing environment, if they could be
redone at all.
They could not release the CD with a disclaimer that it might not work
on certain computers or operating systems as that will just alienate
more people to all of your products.

Well if that's how they feel about it, I don't think they can argue against
pirating it. I found it on kazaa with little trouble.
