Hope you don't mind me tagging on, but *dang*! Trying OOO reminded me of
the old Doom2 is "hell" mode! It's insane!

My savegame was inside fort ruins. Exited fort & got ambushed by 12
"carrion rats" or something. 212 hit points got smacked down to only *four
points* in what seemed like only a few seconds!

Forget trying to cast heal. Jumped over them, cast fortify speed & ran like
hell!

But where did all those rats come from? Would they have been outside when I
1st entered cell? Or do you really get ambushed in OOO?

This mod is *really* a challenge & I'd considered myself a fairly
experienced player.

Lots of fun but like you say-- whole different ballgame.

Good read DeAnn & very informative thread. Wouldn't have known about OOO
otherwise.

thx

It's not 'insane' - but it does reward the careful and well-planned
adventurer.

Yup - it can happen. Which is why I routinely save a game right before I
leave an underground area - bad things can happen in the daylight. You're
also supposed to start a new game when you install OOO - I don't believe it
plays well with existing save games. I might be wrong, but that's what I
recall.

Considering you had a 'fortify speed' spell available, I consider you lucky.
Normally one could expect to die on the spot - repeatedly. Just wait until
you encounter multiple instances of 'gargoyles'...

Yes, you can get ambushed. I've learned to keep casting 'detect life' on my
way OUT of a ruin or cavern as well as on my way-in. In one instance I
encountered NO resistance to the bottom of a gignormus ruin - but once I got
down to the the last room and stole the precious artifact I'd come a
seeking - my path back-out was full of bad guys.

It's challenging indeed - but it does also give you a lot of cool new gear
with which to confront said challenges. I especially like that some areas
on the map are absolutely 'no-go' areas for low-level adventurers and can
only be approached at higher levels. I also like that the bandits,
marauders and raiders you encounter don't seem to be so-much better equipped
(ie, no glass or ebony armor even at higher levels) bu do seem to behave
'smarter'.

Have fun.

Put it this way. I may not post much, but when I see one of your adventures
I'll even put off going to bed to read it. Which I just did, damn I'll be
tired at work tomorrow! Well worth it.

Tell me about it! I was trying to play KotN with OOO v1.3 installed,
and Fort Bulwark... six conjurers + summoned daedra = instant death.

Also, I strongly recommend updating to v1.3.1, which seems to fix some
showstoppers and, most importantly, vanishing cells.

I have a rather unpleasant spellsword who's currently trying to walk
north from Leyawiin, and he's finding it difficult. Lethal, even. Of
course, playing a rough-and-tumble in-your-face spellslinger is a
challenge for me.

Pardon the pun but it's pretty late.

OOO got a little overkill for me. (with me being the one overkilled.)

Since I write stories using game as inspiration-- when character dies-- end
of story!

And stories had gotten very *very* short. : 0!

Back to more vanilla version now. Currently running user mod that makes
some dungeons more like MW-- (dungeons aren't leveled and it's suicide to
explore them if you aren't strong enough.) Makes game far more interesting.
No more "been there seen that". Run the risk of getting my butt kicked if I
blunder into the wrong place.

I'll say one thing tho... OOO is fun for the sheer chaos of it! I was
dodging, running & using every trick in the book. Then I happned to glance
at the clock.

One running melee was so intense, discovered I'd been at it for almost an
hour!

Like the skill & intensity of OOO, but also like a more "vanilla" OB as a
way to relax & unwind.

Will check on OOO update.

thx
