Default War3 under Winex3

Hi,

I have no idea if anyone else is running War3 under Winex3 in this group, but if there is I could use a little help.

I have installed and got the program to run, but the game screen is off set from the top of my 17in monitor by two inches and from the left by three inches. This means that all the start screen buttons are off the right hand side and not reachable.

How do you force the game to run in a window?

The command line I am using at present is;

winex3 "C:/Program Files/Warcraft III/War3.exe" -- -opengl

Anyone help?

Keith

You are better off than me. I had nothing but problems getting Warcraft 3
to run correctly using WineX and I ended up scrapping Linux on my main
system. The die hard Linux users scorned me, but, I said Linux won't do
what I need it to do, therefore it is out of there. I couldn't play my
favorite game, I had nothing but fits to get the DVD backup process working
correctly, and the office emulator (Xover Office) ran MS Access dog slow.
If I didn't play games, backup DVDs, and develop in MS Access, I guess Linux
would be okay.

FWIW Starcraft ran "okay" but was still way slower than if I ran it under
Windows XP or 98SE. For DirectX gaming I am afraid Linux just isn't there
yet.

I used to play WC3 under Linux until a glibc update broke WineX
it works good, the only glitch is the mouse cursor and, of course, its
slow.

be sure to set this in your WineX config:

"Managed" = "Y"
"DXGrab" = "Y"
"DesktopDoubleBuffered" = "N"

to get it to work in fullscreen mode, add the resolution yould like to
play WC3 in to your XF86Config.

IMO, Linux just isn't quite there for a desktop end-user environment. When
more software gets ported to Linux, I will consider it as a viable desktop
OS alternative to the MS monopoly. Linux does have its plusses: I found it
to be very stable, fairly quick, and the price was right. The big minus is
that I got tired of workarounds for getting my favorite applications to run
properly under Linux. Even my Linksys Wireless 54G card would not function
under Linux and that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

OTOH, Linux makes a damn good affordable server alternative to the Windows
server line. I personally know someone who has made some nice cash by
setting up Linux servers for businesses. Most of the businesses he dealt
with just wanted a server that would handle email and web hosting. When
faced with looking at Microsoft's cost/hardware requirements versus Linux, 9
out of 10 businesses chose Linux. I have seen Linux servers go far longer
between reboots than Windows 2k Advanced servers. Hell, when I build my
next machine, I plan on setting up a Linux server to tinker around with it
myself!

Sorry for having offended a Linux user,
Zotikoz

My dad's getting like a P133 gateway machine from his work that he's gonna
let me have as soon as I go over to my parents house to pick it up. Planning
on putting linux on it and seeing what all the fuss is about.

I'm not a Linux user, I'm pretty neutral in the fight, although the linux
side seems to be a little more uppity and snooty.
