Blizzard has had an ongoing bug with a separate battle chat window
disappearing, and it was fixed for about half a second, then the newest
v2 patch came out and it started up again.

By default you have two chat windows that are tabbed. You can drag the
battle window over so you can see two separate windows at the same
time, one normal chat, and one battle information, damage taken and
given.

I was told by blizzard support, I can select simple chat in the
"Interface configuration" and that creates a separate battle chat
window, and that does keep it from disappearing when you die, but locks
it so you can't filter out the tons of information that scrolls by in
PVP, so it's pretty useless.

Also, if you briefly do get a battle chat window to stay up and filter
it for what you want to see, they are missing "vs you" stuff... i.e.
"spell damage vs you" so I have to turn it on for everyone or not at
all and still get spammed too much for it to be of any use.

I'm really surprised more people aren't annoying by the inability to
see damage. I get nailed in PVP by some unseen source behind a hill or
simply behind me and never know who or what did it because of this chat
issue.

Are there any addons that provide this kind of information since
blizzard can't get it right?

I don't have this problem. For the longest I've dragged the second tab
over to the right. You can right click on the tab and select Lock to
keep it from moving or resizing. The only I have is that sometimes it
gets unlocked, but that's all, no problems what so ever seeing both
chat windows...
