Default Dungeon Grinding/Dungeon Farming

I finally got journeyman riding through dungeon grinding. After buy
and before the actions came in, I was down to 5G -- but over night
about 20G came in and more auctions are pending.

This is my approximate net from each dungeon after repair, reload and
actions

Gnomeregon - 25G
Scarlet Monestary (2 instances) - 20G
Deadmines - 15G
Uldaman - 12G (Did not do last part)
Stockades -6G

So far, Gnomeregon has been the best grinding spot. Plus it has the
advantage of being close to the auction house and it has places to
sell within the dungeon.

The biggest problem is determining what to throw away. You get so much
"stuff" that you can't carry it all back. What would really help this
process would be if there were some way to determine the relative
value of items so that you knew what to drop. What would the price be
vendored or auctioned? Sometimes it's pretty surprising because some
gray, nonauctionable items vendor for more than you can auction some
green items. If you convert, silk into heavy silk bandages, they
vendor for a pretty decent price.

When you do this, you see why the folks "soulbind" the top items.

Uhm it's not a problem at all actually... It's called the "Auctioneer"
with "enchantrix" for disenchant values and you have all the info you
need...

Welcome to the Auctioneer mod. It shows the going auction prices for
items, and another mod that comes with it called Informant lets you see
vendor prices. You can just install Informant if you want (I think it
might have one or two dependencies too). Obviously any greens or higher
are worth keeping for the AH, so you don't necessarily need to know the
auction prices for those things right away. But for grays, Informant is
great.

I can't believe you get more from Gnomeragon than you do from Scarlet
Monastery. I thought SM was the premier solo grinding spot for people
looking to farm up some quick cash with instance runs.

Maybe it depends upon the level mix of the servers.
Ie, more people may want the greens from Gnomer than
the greens from SM? Also, Gnomeregan is much larger,
so if you clear the place out, that's quite a lot of
loot compared to only 2 wings of SM.

I wouldn't go thru Gnomer for 100 gold. I hate that place. Even at
level 70, I recently twinked my brother thru there. It was torture.
Most people have historically preferred SM Cathedral as the solo cash
farming place. But that was due to high percentage of green drops vs
junk and at the time you could DE all of them with a low level
enchanter alt.

AS for amount of stuff, buy big bags . As for prices, use
auctioneer, it has vendor & auction prices once you use it a while.

Why? It's got relatively good loot, it's not too hard
(except those damned dark iron dwarves), it's convenient
to get to, and it has vendors and a mailbox for all
your loot. (if you're horde the upside is you get
to kill all the gnomes you want)

It's also far more interesting a place than all the
other lower level instances. A bit of humor, varied
enemies, non-linear.

The really annoying thing about Gnomer is that it's
hard to get groups for, much less good groups.
Did this on horde once and it took several days
before I could get a group even though the quest
rewards are very good for just about any class.

Could you add BFD, SFK, RFK, and RFD into that list and
let us know the numbers. I ran BFD once with two level
45's who were just there to farm pearls.

I went after the Hydrocane yesterday. What a pain
in the butt. It didn't drop until the 10th time I
killed Viscous Fallout. It wasn't hard to just
fight my way back out and reset the instance to
try again. But on try number 7 it said "you have
entered too many instances recently"... Apparently
you're only allowed to create 5 instances an hour.
So I had to wait and try again later.

I did make a whole lot of money though, even
w/o the auctions. Good cash drops too that
add up over time. The drawback is that this was
on my hunter, with limited bag space. Thankfully
the vendor and mailbox was there. Probably 30g
so far; more than I've ever made in a single day
(including that time I had an enchant recipe that
netted 22g at auction).

Along the way someone wanted help with Thermaplugg,
and was surprised my 51 hunter could take him (did
die at the dwarves earlier though). The other
player died from bombs, but got his quest; and I
was a bit worried when thermaplugg died but his bombs
were still there. (I hate using my good health pots
in a dungeon where I get no XP)

Did RFK earlier in the week. Not as good on the
income front. They just don't drop a lot of stuff
in there that can be auctioned, and it's not every
large. Maybe 10g+, but I didn't keep track.

Yep. Both hunters and warlocks have problems with bag space. Guess
what 2 classes my highest level characters are?

No need to use health potions. When my hunter soloed Thermaplugg,
my first encounter at the entrance to his area resulted in the pet
being killed quite rapidly so I had to feign death. I then examined
the combat log and saw that what was happening was all the low
level engineers were throwing wrenches at the pet upping the DPS
to an obsurd level. So on my 2nd attempt (same instance), I went
after the engineers killing as many as possible before the pet
died. Then feigned death, let the survivors reset, rezzed the pet
and repeated. Eventually poor old Thermaplugg was left all alone
when I finally came after him.

Feign death is your friend.

Yep, this was happening to me, not my pet. I wasn't
concerned at first, since you can't really see the
wrenches coming at you and it wasn't until I was
very hurt that I realized what was happening.
Feign-death fixed that.

Those guys weren't too bad. Thermaplugg himself,
all alone, was the tough part. I was level 51.
He bounces the pet back, then comes after me, and
feign death works but then he bounces the pet again.
In the meantime, all these bombs are walking up to
us (the player who was pushing buttons couldn't
keep up and died from them). Thermaplugg was nice
at one point and knocked me back to arrow range :-)

If you are just farming a low level instance on your hunter you can
always use a normal bag instead of a quiver and take the hit on shot speed
