| I'm just starting out and on three US servers appears, in the street in front of the Orgrimmar AH, what looks like an advert for some website (?? I've never gone to any of them). It appears to be bodies ('corpse of jed*') very neatly arranged to spell out the http addy. What are they? Are they legit? Also, just after you enter Orgrimmar, in the street, are sometimes one or two huge poles. What are they? -- jimbo@sonic.net Linux: gawk, date, finger, wait, unzip, touch, nice, suck, strip, mount, fsck, umount, make clean, sleep. (Who needs porn when you have /usr/bin?) |

Clearly someone has managed to hack WoW to be able to create bodies to fall in a pattern that spell out their company name -- and then to keep the bodies there indefinitely. I first saw this a year or so ago, but then had not seen it again until a couple weeks ago. It is now there everytime I visit SW on my new primary server. Of particular interest, I have recently seen it for two different companies. Either they are related, or the trick has spread. I don't see it for both companies at the same time -- only one or the other, but always one of them. I've wondered if one company wipes the other's plants and then plants their own and if we are seeing the edges of a mafia killing spree. Yeah, the gold sellers are killing each other! These appear in Orgrimmar after someone turns in Onyxia's head. If you look at the top of the pole you'll see a dragon's head. It's good for lowbies (<60) to be in Org as you get an awesome buff when someone turns Ony's head in. Can't recall the name of the buff but. Punch |

I see it in Orgrimmar often, but the corpses don't stay. I've only rarely seen the complete word, if ever. It decays, apparently randomly, as corpses disappear. -- Peter Knutsen sagatafl.org |

It has crenellations to hang the head on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crenellation http://www.wowwiki.com/Head_of_Onyxia |

The GMs can clear up the bodies. There's nothing special about them, they are just the bodies of characters created on temporary accounts and teleport-hacked up into the air so they fall and die in the right pattern. I'd be willing to bet that someone wrote a program that does that. It is almost certainly not done by hand. Probably something where they type in a string of text, and the program goes through, logging on each account, positioning the character properly for the next segment of text and kills them. Terminology perhaps, but I would call that a "WoW hack." -- - Burt Johnson MindStorm, Inc. http://www.mindstorm-inc.com/software.html |

Wondered about that -- never paid it much attention though. > It's good for lowbies (<60) to be in Org as you get an awesome buff > when someone turns Ony's head in. I've gotten that buf a coupla times (it lasts for 120 mins) and increases your armor some incredible amount or something -- now if it'd deliver a large peperoni-and-grease to your home (IRL) for free, THAT'd be awesome! ![]() -- jimbo@sonic.net Linux: gawk, date, finger, wait, unzip, touch, nice, suck, strip, mount, fsck, umount, make clean, sleep. I'd assumed that it was a teleport hack straight from the starting zone, or possibly the city entrance, to somewhere above their final resting point, but I just watched one of these being created, and (in this case at least) I was wrong. What actually happened was that toons were running into Stormwind 5 or 6 at a time (so presumably a dozen or more temporary accounts involved, allowing for ones on the way), and shuffling about until they were positioned. Positioning was was stuttering, not smooth, so could have been human hands at the controls, but didn't really feel like it - a big adjustment forward, a smaller one (possibly a couple), maybe a slight turn, then done - not enough of the inevitable overshoot and correction that I'd expect if I were doing it myself, even with a mod to show me my precise coordinates and direction, to get the accuracy that they clearly are. They then seemed to jump (which I found interesting) and in the middle of the jump they vanished. About 5 seconds later a body thumped back into the same location. I guess the actual hack was simply to throw them up to maximum height. Cheers - Ian |
